Dr. Sim Hoffman oversees the operation of three diagnostic radiology offices in the southern California region. A Diagnostic Radiologist with more than 30 years of practice experience, Dr. Hoffman now manages Advanced Professional Imaging Medical Group offices in Buena Park, Huntington, and San Bernardino.
Trained at the LAC/USC Medical Center, Dr. Sim Hoffman is well-versed in such imaging procedures as mammography, general X-ray, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT, and MRI. He is also experienced in such special diagnostic procedures as arthrograms and myelograms.
Myelograms, as Dr. Hoffman knows, has a very specific purpose: to provide a better picture of potential issues with and between the bones of the spine. The Myelogram technique combines the use of X-rays with contrast material (a special dye), which helps the radiologist capture better images of the space and tissue within the spinal column. A myelogram is often performed to locate the presence of an infection, tumor, a herniated disc or arthritis in the patient’s spine.
This procedure involves the injection of dye into the subarachnoid space (fluid-filled space between the bones) so that the physician can see the spinal cord and nerve roots more clearly. Myelograms, as Dr. Sim Hoffman knows, are commonly followed by a CT scan so as to collect as much information as possible before the dye is gone.
